First day: Arequipa - Base camp
At 8:00 AM, departure from Arequipa in a 4 wheels heading to the Misti Volcano. After one hour of transportation, we will reach the "Salinas and Aguada Blanca" National Reserve located at 3400 meters above sea level (11154 ft). There, we will begin our trek with an ascent of 5 to 6 hours up in landscapes rather arid, to our base camp located at 4610 meters altitude (15124 ft). We will set up the camp and acclimatize to the altitude during the afternoon. Around 6:00 PM, we will experience an amazing sunset! Then, dinner and overnight stay in a tent.
Second day: Base camp - Misti Summit - Arequipa
We’ll wake up around 2:00 AM to have breakfast and prepare the equipment. Then, we’ll climb during 5 or 6 hours to reach the Misti summit. During this way up, we’ll pass by the place called "El Nido de Aguilas" and we will also admire a very beautiful sunrise on the Arequipa's desert. Arrival early in the morning at the top of the Misti at 5825 meters above sea level (19110 ft)! We’ll stay there a moment to enjoy the impressive landscapes and the crater of this volcano while those who want can continue with a 45-minutes' walk to reach the Cross of the Misti. From up there, you'll admire unforgettable panoramas at 360 degrees. Then, we’ll go back down to the camp to pick up the equipment and we'll continue until the meeting point with our 4 wheels (descent about 5 hours). Return to Arequipa and arrival early in the afternoon.
Included: guide speaking English and Spanish, 4 wheels, equipment for the ascent (adapted clothes, gloves, sticks, headlamp, tent, mattress, sleeping bag), lunch, dinner and breakfast.
Not included: cereal bars, cookies and dried fruits, water (we recommend you to take at least 5 liters), hiking boots, backpack.
• Necessary skills: this ascent is reserved for people with an excellent physical condition and having experimented high mountain (it’s recommended to have done treks between 4000 and 5000 meters above sea level - between 13123 and 16404 ft).
• We recommend you to be acclimatized to altitude before doing this climb, for example with the visit of the regions of Cusco, Lake Titicaca or Colca (click here if you want us to propose you trips which could facilitate your acclimatization).
